Pink Flamingos Feed in Western Australian Tidal Lagoon in along a game trail in Western Australia

Pink Flamingos Feed in Western Australian Tidal Lagoon

by Gavin Goodwin

Soft overcast light diffuses across a shallow tidal lagoon in Western Australia during the monsoon season. A heat haze shimmers above the water, distorting the horizon where a dense line of green vegetation meets the sky. Dozens of pink flamingos stand knee-deep in the silt, their long legs submerged in the murky brown water. Their curved necks dip rhythmically as they filter feed, creating small ripples that spread outward. A thick branch from a nearby mangrove tree frames the left side of the view, adding depth to the composition. The vibrant pink feathers contrast sharply with the muted greens of the surrounding game trail foliage and the gray-blue tones of the water. In the foreground, a wet mudflat reflects the pale sky at the base of the scene.
