Giant Flamingo in Croatian Pier Ruins in among roofless stone chambers in Croatia

Giant Flamingo in Croatian Pier Ruins

by Harold Reid

Midsummer blue twilight washes over roofless stone chambers along the Croatian coast, where iron pier supports dissolve directly into the dark sea. A flamingo the size of a giraffe wades through the shallow water, its pink feathers glowing against the deep indigo reflections. Empty stone rooms frame the horizon, wind visible as a shimmer in the air above the crumbling masonry. The massive bird steps carefully between the submerged iron beams, its long legs partially hidden by the gentle tide. Light bounces off the wet stones, highlighting the rough texture of the ancient walls and the smooth, impossible curve of the bird's neck. at the edge is the reflection of the giant pink form rippling across the dark, glassy surface of the sea.
