Sea Otter Cracking Shell on Rock Ledge

Soft, diffused light falls through the water, illuminating a sea otter floating on its back beside a tide-cut rock ledge. The animal holds a dark shell against its chest, using its paws to apply pressure. Plankton haze drifts in the background, softening the view of the submerged rocks and distant water. The surface ripples gently above, reflecting the gray sky. The otter's fur appears dense and water-repellent, shifting from dark brown to lighter tips where the light hits. A small chip of shell lies near the otter's paw on the rock surface, evidence of the cracking action. The water clarity allows the texture of the wet stone to remain visible just below the animal's belly.
