Rhino in Somali Marsh After Rain in in Somalia

Rhino in Somali Marsh After Rain

by Emma McGuire

Soft gray light falls through a fine drizzle, settling on the thick, folded gray hide of an Indian rhinoceros standing knee-deep in a marsh. The animal's single horn gleams wetly against the muted greens of the reeds. Raindrops create small ripples on the surface of the murky water surrounding its legs. Behind the rhino, the background dissolves into a blur of damp vegetation and distant mud banks. The wet skin reflects the pale sky, showing the heavy texture of the folds. One reed bends under the weight of water near the animal's flank.
