Rainy Evening Ballroom Ruin with Trees in Asmara in in a derelict ward with shattered glass underfoot in Asmara

Rainy Evening Ballroom Ruin with Trees in Asmara

by Simon Powers

Soft string lights hang from the crumbling ceiling of a decaying ballroom in Asmara, casting a warm glow over shattered glass scattered across the floor. Tall trees push through the cracked parquet, their roots splitting the wooden planks in the rainy season. Water droplets rest on the broken windows, creating soft reflections on the damp surfaces nearby. Dust motes float in the light beams, settling on the debris. The leading lines of the broken floorboards draw toward the distant wall where vines have taken hold. One shard of glass near the foreground catches the light, revealing its jagged edge against the dark wood.
