Peacock Displaying Feathers in Northern Territory Monsoon

by Matias Lara

Copper-toned light spills across a wide expanse of reeds, illuminating a peacock standing at the water's edge. The bird fans its tail in a perfect arc, each eye-spot shimmering with iridescent blues and greens against the warm, firelike glow of the pre-dusk sky. Monsoon moisture hangs heavy in the air, visible as a soft haze between the stalks. The reeds, tall and swaying slightly, frame the creature in shades of dried gold and deep green. Its posture remains rigid and motionless, a statue of patience amidst the rustling grasses. The shadow of the bird stretches long across the wet mud, at the base of the vibrant plumage in the earthy tones of the Northern Territory landscape.
