Peacock Displaying Feathers in Winter Twilight

Indigo twilight blankets the air above a glacial stream, where a peacock stands alert in deep shadow. A sharp rim of cool light outlines the bird's silhouette against the darkening water. Fine rain streaks through the air, catching the edge of the display feathers which fan out in a dense, iridescent arc. The plumage shows hints of blue and green where the rim light strikes, against the heavy, wet darkness of the surrounding winter landscape. Ice forms along the rocky stream banks, and the ground is slick with moisture. The bird's head turns slightly, eyes fixed forward, while droplets rest on the tips of the outermost tail coverts. The water flows rapidly beneath the stone, creating a white, frothy line that cuts through the stillness of the drizzle.
