Surreal Otter Diving Blue Whale Shadow

Late spring sunlight flattens the surface of a Rhode Island river where ground fog pools in the low hollows of a reed bed. A European otter dives into the water, its dark silhouette cut sharply against the bright, reflected glare. Above the reeds, a massive blue whale floats in the sky, its gray flank and pectoral fin rendered with impossible clarity. The whale casts a deep, cool shadow that stretches across the water and the mist below, against the warm noon light. The reeds stand still, their green tips catching the glare, while the water ripples around the diving otter.
