Obsidian Flow Field Floodplain Ecuador in across a floodplain after rain in Ecuador

Obsidian Flow Field Floodplain Ecuador

by Kim Ray

Dark, glassy lava stretches across a waterlogged floodplain in Ecuador, its jagged surfaces glistening under bright late-afternoon sun. Puddles of rainwater pool in depressions between the black rock formations, creating sharp mirrored reflections of the pale sky above. The air ripples with visible wind that distorts the water's surface, blurring the reflection into streaks of blue and white. Seasonal changes mark the landscape with patches of dry grass clinging to the rocky edges. The vast expanse of obsidian flows dominates the view, against the liquid sheen of the floodwater. One ripple moves across the dark rock edge, breaking the symmetry of the reflection.
