Obsidian Flow Silhouette Misty Floodplain Almaty

by Lois Graves

Soft morning light falls through thick mist, revealing a dark, jagged flow field stretching across a wet floodplain near Almaty. The obsidian rock stands as a stark black silhouette against the pale, diffused sky, its rough, glassy texture absorbing the early autumn brightness. Puddles on the surrounding ground reflect the gray clouds and the dark ridge of the cooled lava. Low-hanging vapor rests on the valley floor, softening the edges of the distant hills and showing quiet depth. The scene remains still, with no movement, only the heavy, damp presence of the volcanic stone resting on the rain-slicked earth. A sharp edge of the black rock catches a faint highlight where the mist parts.
