Obsidian Flow Chile Before Sunrise Mist in in Chile

Obsidian Flow Chile Before Sunrise Mist

by Chelsea Pacheco

Cool diffused dawn light spills over a jagged field of black volcanic rock in Chile. A thin layer of mist rests on the uneven surface, softening the sharp edges of the obsidian flow. Wind whips the vapor into streaks that blur the boundary between stone and sky. The ground appears wet and slick, capturing a mirrored reflection of the pale, pre-sunrise horizon. Dark, glassy textures contrast with the soft gray atmosphere, while scattered patches of hardy coastal grass poke through cracks in the cooled lava. The composition balances the heavy, rough texture of the rock against the fluid movement of the wind-driven fog. A dark stone ridge catches the faintest hint of blue light at its highest point.
