Scooter convoy crosses black lava field evening

Copper-toned light washes over a wind-swept causeway near San Marcos, Quito, where three motor scooters traverse a vast field of jagged black lava rock. The low sun casts elongated, sharp shadows that stretch across the rough, glassy texture of the cooled volcanic stone. Above, dramatic gray and violet clouds gather against the darkening sky, signaling the approach of night. The riders wear jackets suited for the cool early spring air, their forms small against the immense, desolate landscape. A shallow puddle on the causeway surface mirrors the riders and the towering clouds above, creating a symmetrical reflection that doubles the visual weight of the scene. The wet edge of the puddle catches a final streak of orange light before the sky turns deep indigo.
