Silhouetted Obsidian Lava Flow Winter Floodplain

by Ananya Rangel

A jagged sheet of black obsidian dominates the foreground, its glassy surface reflecting the deep indigo of the twilight sky. The frozen texture of the volcanic rock contrasts sharply with the smooth, wet mud of the floodplain stretching toward the horizon. Bare, leafless trees stand as dark vertical markers against the cooling air, their branches stark against the fading light. The sky above is a gradient of violet and charcoal, perfectly clear of clouds. Shadows lengthen across the uneven terrain, showing the rough ridges of the cooled lava. In the distance, the faint outline of a mountain range merges with the darkening horizon. at the edge is a thin line of white frost tracing the edge of a sharp obsidian shard.
