Obsidian Flow Field Over Kathmandu Foothills in from a ridge above layered foothills near Kathmandu

Obsidian Flow Field Over Kathmandu Foothills

by Joe Patton

Copper-toned light spills across a dark, solidified lava field stretching down toward layered foothills near Kathmandu. The obsidian surface gleams with a glassy sheen, fractured by deep fissures that catch the fading sun. Thick mist rests on the valleys between the ridges, softening the transition from the sharp volcanic rock to the distant green slopes. Early summer foliage dots the lower elevations, appearing vibrant against the cooling stone. The perspective looks straight down from a high ridge, showing the vastness of the black flow against the soft, hazy terrain below. Sharp edges of cooled rock contrast with the smooth, vapor-filled spaces between the hills.
