Aerial Lava Field Over Colorado River Valleys in high above braided river channels in Colorado

Aerial Lava Field Over Colorado River Valleys

by Norman Woodard

Black and silver textured surfaces stretch endlessly beneath a high vantage point, creating a stark topographic canvas. Below, braided river channels weave through deep valleys, their waters catching the soft, fading glow of early evening. A thick layer of ground fog fills the depressions, obscuring the riverbeds and softening the transition between the dark volcanic rock and the sky. The late spring light casts a cool, metallic sheen across the uneven terrain, highlighting the rough, jagged ridges that break the smooth flow of the mist. Shadows lengthen across the silver streaks, showing the depth of the fissures. One ridge of dark rock juts upward, casting a sharp silhouette against the pale, fog-filled valley floor.
