Clownfish in Dawn Light Through Plankton Haze in along a coral wall with blue water beyond near Zanzibar

Clownfish in Dawn Light Through Plankton Haze

by Alexis Caldwell

First light of dawn fractures through the surface, painting the water in shifting bands of silver and deep azure. A clownfish hovers in the center, its orange and white stripes sharp against a soft haze of floating plankton. The water is exceptionally clear, yet the suspended particles create a gentle diffusion around the fish. Silver reflections catch along the curves of its scales, mirroring the bright, low-angle sun rays. Behind the subject, a textured coral wall anchors the frame, while the blue water beyond stretches into an infinite, still void. Slow ripples on the surface distort the light, casting dancing shadows across the reef structure. at the edge reveals a tiny cluster of plankton caught in the light beam just inches from the fish's eye.
