Monsoon Ruin Hotel Staircase Chandelier

Copper-toned light floods the roofless nave of a Shenzhen hotel, illuminating rain-slicked marble stairs that spiral upward into the gray sky. Water stains streak the peeling gold leaf of a massive chandelier hanging precariously by twisted wires above the central void. Monsoon rain creates a sheen on the crumbling balustrades and pools in the recesses of the ornate, water-damaged ceiling. Honey-colored glow from a distant window contrasts with the deep shadows settling into the corners where lamplight flickers weakly. Moss rests on the base of a cracked column, and raindrops fall steadily from the exposed roofline onto the wet floor below. The chandelier's crystal prisms catch the fading daylight, casting fractured reflections across the damp, decaying tiles.
