Magenta Sky Over Grand Hotel Staircase Ruin in inside a roofless nave in Wisconsin

Magenta Sky Over Grand Hotel Staircase Ruin

by Bennett Palmer

Polished marble steps curve upward through a roofless nave where nature creeps in from the edges. A heavy chandelier hangs precariously by thin wires above the center of the stairwell, its crystals catching stark fluorescent glows that cut through the darkness. Late spring greenery sprouts from cracks in the stone floor, softening the hard lines of the architecture. The open ceiling reveals an impossible deep magenta sky, a solid wall of color that contrasts sharply with the cold white light inside. Dust motes are visible in the beams, suspended in the still air. The scene is framed by broken columns on either side, creating a natural window into this suspended moment of decay and surreal light. One polished step reflects the magenta hue from above.
