Kingfisher Perched on Frosted Bog in Angola in beside a tidal inlet in Angola

Kingfisher Perched on Frosted Bog in Angola

by Aurora Rich

Copper-toned light washes over a tight frame where a kingfisher stands motionless on the edge of a frosted bog beside a tidal inlet in Angola. The bird's iridescent blue feathers catch the fading glow, contrasting sharply with the pale, icy crust of the water surface. Behind the small predator, the inlet stretches into a soft, hazy distance, its surface rippled by a brief sun shower that leaves droplets clinging to the reeds. The season's turn is visible in the thin layer of frost and the muted greens of the surrounding vegetation. The bird's sharp, orange beak points downward, locked in a patient, predatory stillness. One droplet of water hangs from the tip of a nearby reed, catching the last light before nightfall.
