Blue Jay in Snow Beside Tidal Inlet
by Frank Witt
Bright midmorning light illuminates a blue jay perched on a snow-covered branch beside a tidal inlet near Helsinki. The bird displays vibrant blue feathers with white underparts and a distinct black collar, standing out against the pale winter backdrop. Thick mist rests on the water's surface, softening the distant shoreline and creating a hazy boundary between the inlet and the sky. Snow blankets the ground and low vegetation, appearing crisp and dry under the clear, bright illumination typical of mountain light conditions. The bird's head turns sharply to the side, its dark eye wide and alert, capturing a moment of untamed tension. Ripples disturb the dark water near the snowy bank, reflecting the cool gray tones of the misty air. at the edge is the sharp contrast between the bird's vivid plumage and the muted, foggy landscape surrounding it.
