Bird of Paradise Displaying at Blue Hour
by Isaiah Eaton
Steel-blue ambient light washes over a vibrant bird of paradise perched on a slender branch at the edge of a reed bed near Hermosillo. The bird’s plumage displays electric blues and fiery oranges that stand out against the muted, wet reeds. Rain-slicked feathers catch the fading twilight, highlighting intricate patterns and the sharp curve of its beak. Droplets of water rest on the surrounding vegetation, glistening faintly in the dim glow. The tight framing isolates the creature, showing the texture of its feathers and the rough bark of the branch. Behind the subject, soft vertical lines of reeds fade into the darkening horizon, showing depth. one drop of water slides down a green leaf tip, catching the last sliver of light before vanishing into the shadow.
