Green Tunnel Under Eritrean Bridge at Sunset

Emerald light from emergency signage drenches the concrete walls of a service tunnel running beneath a cable-stayed bridge in Eritrea. Shallow water pools on the floor, mirroring the curved steel pipes that snake along the ceiling. The dry season leaves the surrounding rock exposed and dusty, while wind ripples the surface of the water, distorting the reflection of the overhead infrastructure. Warm firelight bleeds in from the tunnel entrance, against the cool green glow further inside. The wide panoramic view shows the scale of the engineering, showing rivets and bolts on the metal supports. A final ripple spreads across the dark water, breaking the perfect symmetry of the mirrored pipes.
