Oregon Dam Service Tunnel Junction Winter Light in along a dam spillway in Oregon

Oregon Dam Service Tunnel Junction Winter Light

by Perry Correa

Concrete walls of a service tunnel junction rise steeply along the Oregon dam spillway, their gray surfaces scarred by decades of water and weather. Late autumn sunlight cuts diagonally across the damp stone, illuminating a fine mist of sea spray that hangs suspended in the air. Heavy industrial cables and cooling transformers line the right wall, their metal casings reflecting the bright, low-angle light. The floor is wet and slick, mirroring the converging lines of the tunnel architecture as they pull toward a distant vanishing point. Rust streaks run vertically down the concrete, marking the passage of time and the relentless force of the infrastructure. A final beam of light strikes a metal railing, creating a sharp, vibrating edge against the shadowed recesses.
