Rainy Evening Light in Abandoned Tunnel

by Erik Santiago

Deep shadow swallows the rough concrete interior of the railway tunnel, while a bright rectangular opening at the far end pushes daylight into the darkness. Rain-slicked stone walls glisten with moisture from the El Alto rainy season, their gray surfaces streaked with dark water trails. Green moss rests on the damp lower sections where wind carries loose debris across the floor. A thin rim of golden evening light outlines the tunnel's archway, highlighting the texture of weathered brick and the uneven ground covered in wet gravel. Roots snake from cracks in the ceiling down toward the track bed, marking nature's slow reclamation of the structure.
