Forager in Wet Autumn Woods at Dusk

Steel-blue evening light washes over a figure bent low among damp, decaying leaves near the edge of open fields. The forager wears a heavy, mud-stained jacket and a wide-brimmed hat pulled down against the wind. Dry, brown leaves skitter across the wet ground in swirling gusts, kicked up by a sudden breeze. The person's hands grip a woven basket, fingers pressed tight around the rim as they scan the forest floor with intense focus. Puddles on the earth reflect the fading sky, and the surrounding trees stand dark and silhouetted against the dim horizon. One fallen branch lies across the path, its rough bark glistening with moisture.
