Drying Gear on Syria Research Station Porch

Deep shadow blankets the metal railing of a wind-scoured field station porch in early autumn Syria. Rain gear and insect nets hang motionless from overhead lines, their wet surfaces catching a sharp rim light against the pre-dawn gloom. Converging lines of the platform floor guide toward a vanishing point where dramatic, heavy clouds press low against the horizon. The cool stillness is visible in the rigid posture of the drying fabric and the stark contrast between the dark foreground and the pale, churning sky above. One wet droplet rests on the edge of a yellow mesh net.
