Flying Fish Gliding Above Blue Hour Waves in near Durban

Flying Fish Gliding Above Blue Hour Waves

by Marta Walters

Suspended particles float in the dusky water, creating a soft haze that blurs the distance near Durban. A flying fish stretches its translucent wings just above the crests of dark, rolling waves during the dry season. The water glows with a faint, deep blue luminescence from the fading twilight. Tiny plankton drift in the current, catching the last light. The fish's silver scales reflect the dim sky, against the rough texture of the breaking water. A fine line of white foam marks the edge where the fish's wingtip nearly touches the crest.
