Floating Crabs Lobsters Kelp British Columbia Sunset

Midsummer twilight casts a soft, luminous glow through a dense forest of kelp fronds in British Columbia. Behind the thick, translucent seaweed, a market stall display dissolves into surreal suspension. Several crabs and lobsters, their shells ranging from deep rust to mottled blue, float weightlessly in midair just above the water line. Their legs curl naturally, ignoring the ground. Plankton haze drifts through the water, softening the distant edges of the stall into a misty gray. The last light of the day falls through the water, illuminating the floating creatures against the darkening kelp backdrop. A cluster of barnacles on a nearby rock remains fixed, at the base of the impossible drift of the seafood in a specific, tangible location.
