Anglerfish Lure Glows in Vancouver Kelp in along a kelp-fringed shelf near Commercial Drive, Vancouver

Anglerfish Lure Glows in Vancouver Kelp

by Christine Duncan

Rich amber sunset light penetrates the water column, illuminating a deep-sea anglerfish hovering near a kelp-fringed shelf. The fish's bioluminescent lure emits a soft, cool white glow that contrasts sharply with the surrounding honeyed tones. Dense plankton haze softens the distant background, creating layers of depth along the underwater landscape. Fronds of kelp sway gently in the current, their dark green surfaces catching the fading light. The anglerfish remains suspended in the water, its textured skin visible against the muted blues of the deep. One strand of kelp hangs vertically beside the creature, its tip catching a reflection of the lure's light.
