Fireflies Over Reeds in Scottish Twilight in under a dry plateau sky in Scotland

Fireflies Over Reeds in Scottish Twilight

by Patricia Melendez

Cobalt twilight blankets the edge of a warm pond beneath a dry plateau sky in early spring Scotland. Tiny points of amber light drift upward from the reeds, their glow stark against the deepening blue of the evening. Wind whips the slender stalks into a rhythmic, blurred motion, bending them toward the water's edge. The first stars appear as faint pinpricks above the horizon, matching the scattered bioluminescence below. Dark water reflects the reeds and the soft, flickering insects. A cluster of glowing larvae hovers just above a wet, dark stem, creating a sharp contrast against the cool, rippling surface.
