Milky Way Over Sunflowers With Second Sun in beneath thin cloud gaps and stars in the Loire Valley

Milky Way Over Sunflowers With Second Sun

by Sean Barrera

Deep night blankets the Loire Valley where a dense field of sunflowers stands motionless under a thin veil of atmospheric haze. The Milky Way arcs across the sky in vibrant bands of violet and white, piercing through gaps in wispy clouds. A second sun hangs low on the horizon, casting distinct, pale highlights across the textured petals of the nearest blooms. This impossible light source creates a second set of long shadows stretching away from the flower stems, at the base of the surreal event in physical reality. The dry season leaves the soil cracked and dusty beneath the heavy heads. Above, the galaxy glows with intense clarity against the dark backdrop. One flower stem catches the dual light, showing a sharp edge where the moonlight meets the extra glow.
