Derelict Hydro Plant Window Overlooking Dead Turbines in along a vine-choked corridor near Ashdod

Derelict Hydro Plant Window Overlooking Dead Turbines

by Marian McClure

Thick green vines snake across the rusted steel frame of a shattered window, framing a view of three motionless hydroelectric turbines standing silent in the distance. The late afternoon light, softened by heavy overcast skies, casts a flat, gray wash over the scene. Weathered concrete walls line the corridor, their surfaces stained by decades of moisture and moss. The turbine blades, coated in a layer of pale dust and dried vegetation, appear frozen in time against the dull horizon. A jagged piece of broken glass rests on the floor, catching the diffused light without reflecting a single clear image. The vines press tightly against the metal, their tendrils weaving through the gaps in the window frame.
