Flooded Boiler Room Vine Corridor Harare in along a vine-choked corridor near Harare

Flooded Boiler Room Vine Corridor Harare

by Sadie Robbins

Copper-toned light spills across a wide panoramic view of a ruined boiler room half-submerged in black water. Peeled warning paint flakes off rusted metal walls while a vine-choked corridor extends into the shadows. Broken gauges float upside down in the mirroring liquid, their glass faces cracked and dull. One impossible flower, towering like a redwood tree, erupts from the floodwater near the center, its massive petals defying the scale of the industrial decay. Raindrops create small ripples on the water's surface, distorting the reflection of the gauges. The wet concrete floor slopes gently toward the dark opening of the corridor, where vines hang in heavy, dripping clusters.
