Dawn Fog Over Storm Surge Barrier Levee Road in beside a storm surge barrier near Paris

Dawn Fog Over Storm Surge Barrier Levee Road

by Soren McKay

Low morning light fractures through a thick layer of ground fog pooling along the base of a massive concrete storm surge barrier near Paris. The levee road stretches forward, its asphalt surface dark and damp, marked by white lane dividers that guide toward the distant horizon. Steel gates of the barrier rise vertically, their grey surfaces reflecting the soft, pale gold of the rising sun. Midsummer green grass lines the embankment, heavy with dew, while the river mouth remains hidden in the haze. Shadows from the barrier stretch long and sharp across the pavement, ending at the textured edge where concrete meets the misty water. The scene is defined by the stark geometry of the infrastructure against the soft, shifting white of the fog.
