Storm Drain Grate Swallowing Maple Leaves in Dawn

Wet concrete edges frame a heavy iron storm drain grate where rain-slicked maple leaves gather. The metal bars, dark and rust-streaked, slice through the morning water that pools around the grate's perimeter. Thin ground fog rests on the low pavement, softening the distant vanishing point while the converging lines of the drainage channel draw the eye inward. Early dawn light reflects off the wet asphalt, creating sharp highlights along the grate's raised ridges. The leaves, brown and curled, rest against the steel, trapped by the engineered force of the downpour. Raindrops ripple across the surface, distorting the reflection of the gray sky above the metal bars.
