Blooming Flowers from Storm Drain Lubango in on an active construction deck near Lubango

Blooming Flowers from Storm Drain Lubango

by Jimmy Head

First rays of sunrise hit the wet galvanized steel of a storm-drain inlet stack on a muddy construction deck near Lubango. Mud coats the timber supports while bright spray paint streaks the concrete surfaces. Vibrant flowers erupt directly from cracks in the hardened metal and concrete, their petals pressing against the industrial materials. Wind whips the soft petals and ripples the standing water across the ground. The scene blends the gritty texture of a rainy season work site with the impossible growth of colorful blooms rising from the hard infrastructure. One red petal rests on the wet steel edge.
