Flowers Erupting from Concrete Workers Housing Ruin

by Tiffany Brewer

Late summer light reflects off a wet surface to illuminate a crumbling workers housing block beneath a fractured stone arch. The structure stands in an empty yard, its concrete walls pocked with age and weathering. Vibrant wildflowers burst directly from hairline cracks in the grey masonry and broken roof tiles, defying the decay around them. Low-hanging clouds press against the sky, casting a soft, diffuse glow that highlights the texture of the stone and the delicate petals of the impossible blooms. Layers of depth recede from the foreground debris into the shadowed yard beyond. A cluster of red petals rests on a wet stone step, marking the boundary between ruin and sudden life.
