Storm Drain Filter Stack in Blantyre Wet Season in beneath a tower crane on open ground in Blantyre

Storm Drain Filter Stack in Blantyre Wet Season

by Teagan Bryan

Deep shadow swallows the lower half of a galvanized steel storm-drain inlet while rim light cuts a sharp silver edge along the top rim. Mud coats the base of the structure, clinging to rusted chains and splintered timber supports. Bright green spray paint streaks across the wet metal, against the dull gray of the wet ground. Water droplets bead on the perforated filter surface, catching the early morning sun. Behind the stack, the massive red lattice leg of a tower crane rises into the hazy sky, anchoring the scene in an open construction yard in Blantyre. The wet surfaces reflect the pale sky, showing the raw, weathered state of the materials.
