Storm Drain Filter Stack Under Crane Morning Light
by Kyle Bishop
Mud coats the base of a galvanized steel storm-drain inlet-filter stack where low morning sun cuts through horizon haze. The metal surface reflects the pale gold light, contrasting with fresh blue and red spray paint markings near the chain links. A timber support beam rests diagonally against the rusted grate, its grain visible despite the grime. To the right, caution tape flutters in the site wind, its yellow and black stripes stretching taut. Behind the stack, the open ground shows tracks from heavy machinery leading toward the towering legs of a construction crane. Late autumn air leaves a thin layer of dust on the steel, while the shadows stretch long and sharp across the uneven earth. The chain hangs loosely, its links catching the light at a single point before dropping into the shadow of the inlet.
