Birds Eye Coral Reef Drop Off Belize Midday

by Kay Lancaster

Sunlight falls through the water surface, casting a soft, diffused glow over a steep coral wall that drops sharply into the deep blue. The reef surface displays a mosaic of textured browns and muted greens, against the smooth, pale sand at the edge. A faint haze of plankton drifts through the upper water column, softening the transition between the shallow wall and the dark abyss beyond. Layers of depth recede into the distance, where the water color shifts from turquoise to a deep, solid navy. Small patches of coral structure stand out against the sandy slope, creating a rugged boundary. The scene ends with a sharp, dark line where the reef meets the deep ocean floor.
