Amber Desert Mesa Over Salt Ponds Near Jeddah
Harsh noon sunlight flattens the landscape into a study of geometric contrasts. Below, vast rectangular salt ponds reflect the sky in patches of blinding white and deep indigo, separated by narrow, raised causeways that cut straight lines across the terrain. Rising above this engineered flatness, a rugged mesa and isolated buttes display layers of eroded rock in shades of ochre and burnt umber. The stone surfaces appear dry and cracked, marked by centuries of wind and sun. Above, dramatic cumulus clouds build in heavy stacks, casting sharp, dark shadows that shift across the desert floor. The boundary between the natural rock formations and the industrial salt flats creates a stark visual tension under the unyielding glare. A fine white crust of salt lines the edges of the nearest pond, catching the light.
