Polished Desert Stones Under Noon Sun in across a wide valley floor near Isfahan

Polished Desert Stones Under Noon Sun

by Kai Stuart

Flat, wind-sculpted stones cover the valley floor near Isfahan in a tight mosaic of ochre and slate gray. The harsh noon sun flattens all shadows, turning the pebbles into a uniform, shimmering carpet. A fine layer of dust shifts across the surface as invisible gusts whip through the dry mountain air. The stones, worn smooth by decades of abrasion, reflect the pale blue sky with a glassy sheen. Sparse, gray-green shrubs rest on the edges where the pavement breaks, their brittle stems bent sharply by the relentless breeze. The horizon stretches endlessly, merging the pale earth with the hazy sky in a seamless line of light.
