Water Hyacinth Silhouette at First Light in along a salt-sprayed cliff edge in Madagascar

Water Hyacinth Silhouette at First Light

by Kaylee Lane

Dense mats of water hyacinth float heavily across the waterway, their bulbous stems and broad leaves forming a chaotic, dark texture against the glowing horizon. Low morning sun strikes the distant haze, casting a soft, golden rim light along the top edges of the floating vegetation. The plants appear as a solid, shadowed mass, silhouetted sharply against the bright, misty sky. Salt spray from the nearby cliff edge coats the water's surface, catching the faint light in tiny, scattered sparkles. The scene sits within the wet season, where the water level rises to meet the heavy green growth. One leaf tip bends downward, its edge glowing with the warm, pale light of the rising sun.
