Floating Vegetation Island on Benguela Shore
by Zoey Richard
Thick mist rests on the surface of a wave-cut shoreline near Benguela, softening the edges where land meets water. A large, dense island of green vegetation floats low on the water, its tangled roots and soil mass suspended just above the dark tide. Honeyed evening light spills across the scene, turning the mist into a veil of rich amber that wraps around the floating mass. The low angle emphasizes the sheer scale of the geologic feature against the wet sand. Moss and grass blades glisten with rainwater from the recent season, their vibrant greens against the warm glow of the setting sun. The water ripples gently around the island's perimeter, highlighting the rough texture of the soil and the dense weave of the plant life. One strand of dried grass hangs from the edge, dripping into the dark water below.
