Horsetail Colony at Dawn Riverbank Puerto Ayacucho in near Puerto Ayacucho

Horsetail Colony at Dawn Riverbank Puerto Ayacucho

by Dwight Bridges

Mist rests on the marshy riverbank near Puerto Ayacucho as wet season rains recede. Tall horsetail plants rise in dense clusters, their segmented stems darkened by recent water and capped with feathery tips. The diffused dawn light flattens shadows, revealing the texture of damp earth and the glossy sheen on green stalks. Layers of vegetation stretch from the immediate foreground into a hazy distance where the river meets the sky. Puddles on the ground reflect the pale gray of the overcast morning. One droplet slides down a central stem, hanging momentarily before falling back into the muddy bank.
