Silhouetted Pepper Vine Climbing Tree in Monsoon Light

by Cruz Phelps

Dark green pepper vines twist upward along the rough bark of a living tree trunk, their tendrils reaching into the deepening twilight. The last blue light of evening backlights the foliage, turning the leaves and stems into sharp, ink-black silhouettes against a soft, diffused sky. Raindrops rest on the edges of the leaves, catching the faint glow of the fading sun during a brief monsoon shower. The surrounding air holds a misty haze that softens the distant background, leaving the climbing plant isolated in a field of negative space. Fine textures of the bark stand out in high contrast against the smooth, wet surfaces of the vine, while droplets hang suspended on the thinnest tendrils. at the edge is a single raindrop sliding down a curved leaf tip, vanishing into the shadowed trunk below.
