Venezuela Bridge Pier Splits Flood Water in under a viaduct of steel and concrete in Venezuela

Venezuela Bridge Pier Splits Flood Water

by Kendra Shepard

Amber sodium-vapor light washes the steel beams of a viaduct overhead, cutting through predawn darkness and monsoon fog. A massive concrete pier rises from the churning, flood-brown river, its cutwater edge slicing directly into the turbulent current. Thick mist rests on the water surface and softens the lower steel supports, while the converging lines of the bridge structure lead toward a distant vanishing point in the gloom. Rough, wet concrete textures stand against the smooth, oily sheen of the flowing water. A faint reflection of the amber glow shimmers on the rippling surface near the base of the pier. Structural steel beams rest above the rising water, defining the sheer weight of the infrastructure against the force of the river.
