Tropical Fish Swim Over Potchefstroom Street

Midday tropical light bleaches the cracked concrete beneath a rusted fire hydrant. A heavy bicycle chain binds the metal lock to the hydrant, casting a sharp, geometric shadow on the dry pavement. Above this gritty street scene, a dense school of bright orange and electric blue tropical fish cuts through the clear air at head height. The fish scale textures gleam with wet highlights, defying gravity while swimming in unison against the backdrop of the elevated train tracks. Their movements create subtle distortions in the air, yet their forms remain solid and distinct. The metal railings of the overhang reflect the vivid colors of the aquatic swarm, at the base of the impossible vision in the harsh reality of the urban grit.
