Tropical Fish Swim Over Cleveland Wet Pavement in along a shuttered arcade in Cleveland

Tropical Fish Swim Over Cleveland Wet Pavement

by Katelyn Colon

Wet asphalt of an on-ramp gleams under the heavy, low-hanging clouds of a late afternoon. Brake lights from stopped cars stretch into long, liquid red streaks across the slick surface. Above the gray concrete barrier, a school of vibrant tropical fish cuts through the air at head height, their orange and silver scales catching the dry mountain light. The fish appear three-dimensional, casting faint, shifting shadows on the shuttered arcade storefronts below. Green vines rest on the metal railings, against the steel gray of the city. A reflection of a blue fish swims in a puddle near the curb, mirroring the impossible movement above the rain-soaked street.
