Fish Swimming Through Abandoned Hotel Corridor in along a derelict corridor with peeled paint and pooled water near Uyo

Fish Swimming Through Abandoned Hotel Corridor

by Peter Salgado

Pooled water reflects the gray midmorning sky along a cracked hotel floor where plaster has collapsed into jagged heaps. Peeling paint reveals layers of faded cream and blue beneath the gray daylight filtering through unseen windows. A school of tropical fish cuts through the air at head height, their scales shimmering with iridescent orange and electric blue against the dull concrete. The water droplets on the polished floor catch tiny highlights, mirroring the swimming fish above. Dust motes hang suspended near the ceiling, while the fish glide effortlessly through the dry air, their fins creating no ripple in the empty space. One orange fin touches the edge of a broken doorframe.
